When did you join Ascend?
TS – Officially, July of 2014 when my design firm Yellowfin was acquired by Ascend. Our companies had been working together for four to six months prior to that date.
What was the most memorable part of your day today at work?
TS – An in person visit with our client CleanFUEL USA in Georgetown. I hadn’t seen Curtis, Crystelle, or Brooke in person for a while, and it was really great to spend some time with them.
What’s the best advice you ever received?
TS – Gosh, I love good advice. I soak it up. It’s almost hard to parse out which nugget I would describe as the “best.”
If I go way, way back, and think about the first piece of advice that really stuck with me at about the age of 12, I’d have to say it was this: “Don’t settle for mediocre.” That advice was presented in a way that made it sound like “mediocre” was a bad word– and a really bad thing. Since then, I’ve tried to avoid the mediocre in every situation. I’d like to think that approach led me to both some great accomplishments and a high level of ‘life happiness.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
TS – Fly.
What is something you have always wanted to try?
TS – I’ve always wanted to try designing and fabricating a large public outdoor sculpture. Money, space, and time have been a barrier. Where would you put one of those things?
If you could win a ‘life-time supply’ of anything what would you want it to be?
TS – Art supplies.
What do you like to do on your birthday?
TS – Travel to the tropics– get out of the January cold.
TS – A documentary on Gerhard Richter.
TS – “Must be present to win”
Latest book you read?
TS – The Power of Now — again.
